I used to be a regular here when I lived in Seattle, back when it was called Chef Cafe. I still dream of their gomen—it’s perfectly garlicky and so flavorful. It was a family-owned business, and the main chef, whose name I don't recall, used to be a private chef for imperials in Ethiopia. This family was always welcoming, kind, and warm. I pray this restaurant is still under the same ownership using the same recipes!

My experience at this restaurant was primarily focused on their vegetarian options, as I usually opt for veggie combos. While it's not a fancy establishment, it provides everything you need and excels at creating a homey atmosphere. The server/host was friendly and quick, and she recommended the Shiro Wot. I found the Shiro Wot to be soooo good; it was a highlight and something I hadn't encountered in typical Ethiopian veggie combos before. We ordered it on the side, and it was a fantastic choice. The portions were generous, and the food was quick to be prepared. I will certainly be back.

My experience at this restaurant was unfortunately not the best. I used to frequent this establishment when the original Chef owned it, so my expectations may have been higher than they should have been. There was a musty, grandma-like smell throughout the restaurant. The injera was microwaved and soggy. Out of the seven stews in the veggie combo, only two were acceptable. The fried fish recipe has completely changed, and we received sriracha instead of an authentic hot sauce. I will not be returning. The waitress was nice and acknowledged that the food is not the same.

I had a strong appetite for Eastern African cuisine and searched for a place in the Seattle area with good ratings. My husband and I were lucky to visit on a day they were celebrating a family activity. Their welcome and service were very endearing, even including us in their celebration with cake. The restaurant felt aesthetically unassuming, but their customer service was incredibly attentive and sweet. They were very helpful in guiding us through the menu and selecting options. We opted for a softer textured meat dish (name forgotten) and the Veggie Combo. Finding less spicy options was important as my husband cannot eat very spicy food. A point to note is that the salad comes with jalapeños, which was an unexpected surprise. The restaurant also features a pool table area, maintaining its modest aesthetic and appearing to be a family-friendly spot for celebrations. It's very worth a try.

My experience at this restaurant was outstanding. I had the best Quanta Firir (ቋንጣ ፍርፍር) I've ever tasted in Seattle. The veggie combo was out of this world, and I highly recommend it, along with the Shiro, if you're a vegetarian. The host/manager, Feven, made us feel incredibly special, treating us like royalty. 👌 Highly recommended!
