Disappointing Banh Mi Experience
I wanted to like this place, but it really fell short in every margin. I ordered the crispy porkbelly, which came out to a whopping $22 due to a mandatory 15% service charge. I've seen that for dine-in restaurants, but a take-out sandwich shop?
This is already on top of it selling banh mi, a historically cheaper sandwich. The crispy porkbelly, even for porkbelly, was nauseatingly salty and I had a hard time finishing it. The size was pretty small in comparison to most Banh Mi you can get for a third of the price, and the flavors were nothing special.
Go somewhere else like Little Saigon if you can.

Most Elevated Banh Mi Experience!
My experience at this restaurant was truly exceptional! I had the most elevated Banh Mi in the city. The bread was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The ingredients were super fresh and premium, making for an outstanding meal. The atmosphere and service were both rated a perfect 5, and there was no wait time. Parking was also a breeze with plenty of free street parking available.
I highly recommend this place, especially for vegetarians!

Delicious Banh Mi, Slow Service
My experience at this restaurant involved enjoying a dense banh mi with flavorful sauce and a crispy baguette. However, the baguette was a bit on the smaller side, so for those who are very hungry, you might want to consider getting two. The service was notably slow; it took 25 minutes to purchase 5 banh mi, averaging 5 minutes per banh mi, which I found unacceptable for speed.
The space is spacious and easy to find, though parking could be challenging on a busy day. The staff were courteous and nice. I would recommend coming here if you are not pressed for time and not too hungry, otherwise, it might be best to pass.

Best Banh Mi, But Service Charge Questionable
Although expensive, the banh mi are the best. However, I was surprised to see a 15% service charge added for a takeaway order. Since I simply walked up to the counter to place my order and there was no waiter involved, this seemed unusual.

Elegant Mackerel Sandwich - Worth the Price
Other reviewers are complaining about the cost, but honestly, if you care about quality ingredients and creative, precise execution, this place is for you. The mackerel sandwich is one of the best I’ve ever had. If a sandwich can be described as “elegant, ” it’s this one.
The service and atmosphere were both excellent (5/5).

Lux Takeout Sandwich Experience
This was a lux takeout sandwich experience with amazing ingredients and a fancy pedigree. Most of the low star reviews are from folks who think the prices are too high and the unexpected 15% service fee. This is a little unfounded: the prices are average for a fancy sandwich in SF, and the 15% is actually fairly low when you compare to other places' tip options.
I love this place, but don’t leave a low star review just because you were expecting $5 banh mi prices.

Overpriced Bahn Mi with Added Tip
My experience at this restaurant was that the bahn mi was decent, but it was insanely overpriced. They automatically added a 15% tip for ordering at the counter, which I found surprising. Ultimately, the bill came to $52 for two sandwiches and a Vietnamese coffee.

Slanted Door Owner's Sandwich Spot
I had walked by this place numerous times and it looked appealing, but I didn't feel a pressing need for more sandwich options. However, upon reading in Eater that it was owned by the same person behind The Slanted Door, I felt compelled to try it. The sandwiches are indeed good!
While not overtly Vietnamese-inspired, they do offer Vietnamese ice coffee, corn snacks, and various small sauces for purchase. The establishment has limited seating, with only about four seats inside, which accurately reflects its name.

Overpriced with Hidden Fees
My experience at this restaurant was overwhelmingly negative due to its excessive pricing and hidden fees. While the food itself was described as 'fine' and 'not the worst, ' it was certainly not worth the cost. The most frustrating aspect was the 15% junk fee added on top of tax and other charges, significantly inflating the bill.
For instance, a tuna sandwich ended up costing well over $20, a price point where much better sandwich options are available elsewhere. I would avoid this place if you're looking for value for money.
