Excellent Takeout Food with Great Flavors
I was impressed by the food, especially for a takeout spot. The Beef teriyaki was fatty and had a nice char. The Salmon teriyaki was moist and the skin had a nice crunch.
The rice had teriyaki sauce underneath, which was a great touch!

My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The service was incredibly fast, and the food was wonderfully fresh. They also offer a wide amount of food options.
I particularly enjoyed the combo plate, which included tempura & eggplant and chicken katsu curry. I loved them both!

My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The service was incredible, and the food was delicious. They were very accommodating and happy to make substitutions to my meal.
The prices were unbeatable, and there was a great range of vegetarian options. I highly recommend the veggie dumplings – they are a must-order!

Hidden Gem with Incredible Value
My biggest regret is not knowing this place existed sooner! I’ve lived in the area for close to 10 years and while I’ve learned the neighborhood gems, this one remained hidden. The prices are incredible, and the food is even better.
My only comment is to order the chicken katsu instead of the teriyaki; the teriyaki is good and worth the price, but the katsu is too good for what it’s worth! I’ve tried all the Japanese curry places around, and I love Volcano, but if I’m looking for a great meal, a good price, and a satisfying end to my night, the late hours and wonderful food of Xiaoyu is not just a place to settle for, it’s the one I’m hoping is open, and lucky for me, they usually are!

Late Night Treat: Delicious Wings & More!
I was so glad this place was open late when I was returning home from work around 9: 45 pm and super starving! Although I usually cook my own food to save money and avoid seed oils & sugar, I decided to break the bank & treat myself to a meal. I got the salt and pepper chicken wings – they were GREAT!
I loved the Thai chili & garlic slices they sat on; they were perfectly crispy and you get a good amount in the order. I also ordered the 3-selection dinner box, with beef teriyaki, mixed tempura, and grilled mackerel. Everything was delicious and very well-prepared.
The mackerel was a small portion and slightly over-cooked, but it was fresh & the flavor was excellent! The beef was tender and juicy and cooked medium-rare to perfection. The tempura was, of course, exquisite, as it generally is – sweet potato, broccoli, carrot, and two shrimp.
It came with a small scoop of rice, miso soup (average), and a tiny salad (the dressing was nauseatingly sweet 😵💫). I loved the food, and the cashier was friendly. I'm definitely going to order more food in the future!
It seemed pretty expensive to me, but considering similar offerings from similar restaurants, it was a decent deal, and I was only slightly hungry after finishing the meal!

Delicious Katsu Curry Late Night Treat
My experience at this restaurant was a late-night delight! We stopped in for katsu curry, and it truly delivered. The meal was reasonably priced for the generous amount of food, which included a salad, miso soup, and the entree.
The fruit, lemonade, and tea combination was surprisingly delicious. We enjoyed dining in by the window; it was quiet, allowing for great conversation while we admired the pretty, quiet street.

Tiny Japanese Gem with Amazing Appetizers
My experience at this very small Japanese restaurant was a delightful grazing light lunch. I found the food to be very good. Specifically, their shishito peppers and garlic edamame were the best I've ever had, even after 45 years of eating at many Japanese restaurants in San Francisco, particularly in Japantown and the Richmond district.
The soft shell crab and kaki fry (oysters) were also very good.

Best Food and Price in the Bay Area!
My experience at this restaurant was exceptional. The food and price point are the best in the Bay Area, and honestly, anywhere. They consistently get everything right, from the taste and quality of the food to the affordability.
Every dish I tried was perfectly done and incredibly good. Furthermore, the staff was incredibly accommodating; they even switched my rice for udon, which I'm so thankful for. It feels like a family restaurant, and they are the sweetest.
