Sohn: A Gem in the SF Cafe Scene
My experience at Sohn was fantastic! This cafe fills a missing piece of the SF cafe scene. The space is beautifully designed and full of intention. The menu offers a delightful balance, feeling both comforting and refreshing. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast sandwich and the banana oat milk latte – they are definite standouts. The staff were warm, contributing to a lively energy throughout the cafe. Everything about my visit felt well-intentioned.

Spacious Gem with Delicious Cold Noodles!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The space is very spacious, which is a huge plus. I absolutely loved the delicious food, and my favorite has to be the cold noodles – they hit the spot every time. This is exactly the kind of place San Francisco needed for a long time, and I'm so glad it finally opened!

Worth the Wait for Amazing Food!
Came by on a Sunday morning and there was a line out the door, but it was totally worth it. They were super thoughtful and handed out snacks to everyone waiting, which was such a nice touch. There’s a separate line for dine-in and takeout, and the owner was at the door keeping things moving smoothly. We got a banana oat milk latte, one with hojicha and the other with espresso – both amazing. For food, we tried the gochujang cookie and split the Galbi patty melt… and immediately regretted not getting two. So good. Everything about Sohn feels intentional. The service, the drinks, the food were all top notch. Definitely worth the wait!

Mixed Feelings at New Matcha Cafe
I visited a new matcha cafe in the area and wanted to try it out. The line was quite long on the weekends, but they had two floors. The matcha with cream top was good. The patty melt was also good, though it felt a bit small and plain for its price ($16 for a small croissant-wich with beef patty and kimchi coleslaw). The kimchi fried rice was good too, but it wasn’t anything too special and didn’t have any meat in it 🥲. I would come here for the ambiance, but not if you're looking for a traditional cafe space for coworking. Honestly, it feels more like a mix between a restaurant and a cafe!

Good Food, Service Needs Work
My experience getting takeout from this cafe was a mixed bag. The food and drinks were good, though not exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the Breakfast Sandwich for its great combination of flavors and textures. The Sausage Pepper Croissant was decent, but would have been better warmed up. The espresso drinks were standard and met expectations. The Gochujang Caramel cookie was well-made, but could have benefited from more Gochujang Caramel. However, the service and operations definitely need improvement. It was frustrating to see people waiting in line for a table forced to stay outside in the rain, despite ample space inside. This lack of consideration for customers was a significant drawback. Additionally, there was no option to warm up pastries for takeout orders via the kiosk. We also discovered they didn't have decaf after placing our order, which was confusing given it was listed as an option. The wait for hot drinks was also slow, with iced drinks arriving before hot ones for some customers. The inside of the cafe itself is very pleasant and well designed, offering a nice atmosphere.

Promising New Spot with Room to Grow
I visited Sohn during a short trip to SF to catch up with a friend. My friend had warned about potential long lines for dining in, but Sohn offers a separate line for takeout, which is great if you're in a hurry. I waited about 15-20 minutes with around 10 people ahead of me, and an employee kindly offered seaweed chex mix while we waited. The staff were really friendly, organized, and communicative. The space felt like a full-service restaurant due to the high level of service provided. I ordered the matcha latte with cream top and popcorn chicken with rice cakes. The matcha latte was reasonably priced at $7 and pretty good; it wasn't too strong but still had a distinct matcha flavor. The popcorn chicken was very crunchy, but I found it a bit dry and with a strong chicken flavor. It might be better if it were juicier or served with a sauce. The rice cakes had a seaweed seasoning and were alright, but not outstanding. The portions for the food also seemed small (photos attached show before any consumption). While the food presentation and taste are clearly intentional, there's still room for improvement. Overall, Sohn feels like a great place to hang out with friends and chill, offering a variety of cafe drinks and some entrees/sides. As they are relatively new, I'm excited to see how Sohn evolves in the coming year and builds upon their already impressive operations.

Beautiful Spot, Disappointing Coffee
I really liked the vibe here; it’s a beautiful space. Unfortunately, my breakfast sandwich was cold, and both my flat white and pour-over were room temperature and pretty flavorless. The paper cups also detracted from the café charm. Despite the disappointing coffee, the people were very nice, and it's a beautiful spot.

Delicious Food, Worth the Wait
This is a nice cafe to catch up with a friend over a delicious matcha latte or to grab lunch. We visited around noon on a Wednesday, and the line was about 5 parties long, leading to a 20-30 minute wait before we were seated. While the line seemed to move quickly, be prepared for a wait. We ordered the banana oat latte and cream top matcha latte; both were delicious, but we preferred the banana oat latte. For food, we enjoyed the kimchi fried rice, cold noodles, fried chicken, and the gochujang caramel cookie. The food was delicious, and I particularly loved the added mochi in the fried chicken. The cookie was akin to a very delicious, chewy snickerdoodle. We left around 1: 30/2: 00 PM, and there was still a line of about 5 parties, but I can totally see why and am already planning my next trip back!

Disappointing Service, Okay Matcha
I visited this place last week because I’m a big fan of matcha and wanted to try it out. We waited in line behind about three people total, but no one came to take our order or explain the system. After a while, a lady, who I believe might be one of the owners, walked in and took an order from a group that had just arrived outside while we were still waiting. I wouldn’t have minded if she had explained where to order or mentioned that someone would help us soon, but there was no communication at all. When it was finally my turn, I placed my order, but she didn’t smile or say thank you, even when I did. Maybe that’s how some popular or busy cafés are now; they don’t seem to care much about service or treating people with a good attitude anymore. It felt a bit disappointing. I understand everyone can have a bad day, but a little kindness and clear communication go a long way would be much appreciated. I just hope everyone gets treated with the same respect, kindness, and standard of service. The matcha is okay, but I don’t know why I came a long way to get treated like this. Thank my friend who recommended me, never again!
