My experience at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend ordering the torpedo sandwich and asking for it "hot" to have it toasted. Their meatballs are also on par with the best I've had in Chicago and New York. It's a true gem of the neighborhood.

My experience at this restaurant was mixed. The bread seems to have changed since my last visit, but it was still decent. The atmosphere was quite lacking, scoring a 2 out of 5. While the food received a 3 out of 5, the overall experience was impacted by the ambiance.

My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! I found the best sandos in OB, and their garlic bread is out of this world. The portions are huge, and everything on the menu is affordable. I especially appreciated that you can’t beat the pricing. The staff is super friendly and they are always very sweet to my dog, going above and beyond in the customer service department. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! Foxtrot says “thank you for the treats! ”

My experience at this restaurant was fantastic. It's a great place to get sandwiches, and the service is quicker than other local delis. My go-to orders are the torpedo and the roast beef.

I’m giving 2 stars because the beef sandwich was tasty and really good. However, I also ordered the penne pasta with meatballs, and it was very disappointing—the taste was bad, and I couldn’t have it. Definitely wouldn’t recommend the pasta, as it wasn’t close to authentic Italian style either.

My experience at the restaurant was fantastic! The service was great, and the tatted up guy is awesome 🫡. I also found the roastbeef sandwich to be phenomenal 🤤🤙🏼.

I revisited this restaurant after not having been there since the '80s, when I lived near the pier. Back then, it was run by a very cool dude from the East Coast named Leonard. I had heard the place was still as good as ever, and I can confirm that upon my return in November. Sadly, Leonard has passed on, but his son has taken over and is carrying on the family tradition. The food is as good as ever. They now have a couple of tables outside where you can enjoy your meal in the warm California sunshine. I highly recommend it!

If you're heading to Ocean Beach (OB) and feeling hungry, don't bother looking elsewhere. The bread is absolutely bomb! Enjoy the outdoors or the beach to soak in the OB atmosphere, and then make sure to visit The Black.
