Exceptional Dining Experience at The Peasant
They call it The Peasant, but the food is anything but. Owner/Chef Kevin Smith delivers one of the most genuinely enjoyable dining experiences I’ve had in Seattle. The whole night felt personal, like being cooked for by someone who loves what they do and wants you to love it too. Every dish had character, balance, and was perfectly composed. The pâté en croûte was an absolute standout, rich, layered, and perfectly executed. The lamb chop was cooked rare, but was so tender you could have cut it with a spoon. Its deep, savory crust made me wish there were two. Even the broth course, which sounded simple on paper, had incredible depth, and the unique dumpling felt comforting in the best possible way. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a small single seating spot: relaxed, intimate, and full of life. Watching Kevin work while chatting casually with him makes the whole thing feel less like a restaurant and more like sitting in the kitchen of a friend who happens to be an exceptional chef.

Terrific Food, Charming Ambiance
My experience at The Peasant was unique, as it's situated within a butcher shop, so don't expect a traditional fine dining atmosphere. The setup was intimate, with one person cooking, one serving, and one handling bussing and water refills. Despite the unconventional setting, the food was terrific, the service was warm, and I found the ambiance quite charming for the few tables available. The menu is decidedly meat-forward, but a standout for me was a roast cabbage side. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and carefully composed. It's an unusual restaurant, but a very delicious experience.

Exceptional Food, Service, and Atmosphere
My experience at this restaurant was truly exceptional. I started with an heirloom tomato salad with basil vinaigrette, followed by a succulent pork cheek confit over creamy sweet corn with pickled peppers. The patè of ham with hot mustard and pickled apples was also a highlight, as was the smoked New York strip with mushroom stew, featuring a surprisingly delicious fried shallot. For dessert, I enjoyed a delightful steamed pudding with berries and a wonderful sauce. All dishes were expertly paired with a variety of wines. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and the communal table experience, sharing with happy strangers, was fantastic. We absolutely loved the whole experience. While it's an indulgence that will break the bank, it's definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Intimate, Delicious, and Worth Returning
My experience at The Peasant was incredibly intimate and relaxed, thanks to the few tables occupied and the calm atmosphere. The staff were incredibly attentive and explained each dish with care, which was greatly appreciated. The meat was delicious, cooked a bit rarer than I usually prefer but still full of flavor. The dish combinations were spot on: simple ingredients, beautifully balanced and complex without unnecessary frills. For the quality of the food, I didn’t find it overpriced at all. We went a little adventurous with our choices and are definitely planning to return to explore more of the menu. Parking was easy, and the neighborhood is lovely for a stroll, especially in spring. Extra points for the chicken wallpaper; the ambiance is very cozy with no loud music, offering a very mature dining experience. I rarely give 5 stars, but this is one of the few places in Seattle that deserves 5 for both the food and service.
