Decent Food, Terrible Service Experience
My experience at this restaurant was a mixed bag. The food was decent, earning a 4 out of 5. However, the service was terrible.
We waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and the staff acted as if they were doing us a favor by serving us at that point. This significantly detracted from the overall dining experience.

Long waits, good food, dog-friendly patio
We visited this restaurant twice, and both times experienced long wait times. The first visit, we waited 30 minutes, and the second time, it was 45 minutes for just one ramen bowl. The food itself is good, but the extended wait significantly diminishes the enjoyment.
We had to actively ask for our order on the second visit, as it seemed it might not have arrived otherwise. The only positive aspect is the patio seating, which is dog-friendly. Otherwise, I'd suggest trying another ramen place in the mall.

Ramen Experience: Not Great, But Not Painful
My experience at this ramen spot was honestly not great. As someone particular about ramen, having lived in Japan, the bright side was that the broth wasn't too salty to the point of causing pain, unlike some other places I've visited. In fact, the sodium content seemed rather low compared to others.
The food, service, and atmosphere were all rated a 3 out of 5.

Surprisingly Delicious Vegan Miso Ramen
My first visit to Menya Ultra at this location was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the vegan miso ramen, and it exceeded my expectations! The dish was generously filled with vegetables, and the soup had a wonderfully creamy texture, making it easy to enjoy.
My only minor disappointment was encountering a few tough pieces of onion skin. Despite this small issue, the atmosphere and the staff were great.

Disappointing Ramen Experience
I'm unsure how this restaurant earned a spot in the Michelin Guide California, as we've had many better ramen experiences. While both soups we tried were decent, the tonkotsu wasn't as impressive. My primary concern was the chashu piece, which was both thin and small.
An additional $4 for four more pieces still resulted in pieces that were far too small. The noodles were just okay, nothing remarkable. The service was notably slow, suggesting the staff was significantly understaffed.

Amazing Food, Pricey Substitution
My experience at the restaurant was primarily about the food, which was amazing. I tried both the Spicy Miso Ramen and the Vegan Ramen. For the Spicy Miso, I opted to replace the pork chashu with chicken.
While the food quality was excellent, I was surprised by an additional charge of $7 for this substitution, which felt a bit expensive. The spice level of the ramen was notably higher than other places I've visited, likely one or two levels above.

Authentic Taste, Great Food!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! Despite the typical mall food stall ambiance, the food itself was excellent and did not disappoint. I was impressed by the very authentic taste and the rich, creamy texture of the dishes.
The service temperature was on point. I highly recommend this place.

Incredible Ramen Experience at Menya Ultra
If you’re a ramen lover in San Diego, you have to try Menya Ultra. My experience was fantastic! The broth here is next level rich, flavorful, and just the right balance of creamy and salty.
The noodles are fresh, springy, and soak up all that umami goodness perfectly. I ordered the Tonkotsu with chili paste on the side and added the soft boiled egg. The chashu pork practically melts in your mouth, and the toppings just make every bite better.
It was so delicious and definitely recommended.
