Incredible Local Tofu and Salmon Avocado Roll
I found this spot through Resy and it did not disappoint. The local tofu was incredible, and the salmon avocado roll was our favorite, but we liked everything we tried!

Delicious Japanese Gem with Great Service
I discovered this place thanks to a local, and it's an absolute hidden gem. The food here is absurdly delicious, and surprisingly, the prices are more reasonable than you'd expect. The nigiri was fresh and well prepared, and the specialty rolls and dishes were simply outrageous – the chefs clearly know their craft.
The service was very friendly and helpful, and the menu is impressively vast. They offer many Sake options with diverse flavor profiles, and the recommendations were given with skilled knowledge. It's also worth noting there's a great little punk/metal bar across the street with pool, pinball, and a large outdoor area.
Both this restaurant and the bar were full but not uncomfortably crowded. I will definitely return any time I'm in town; it's an excellent find.

Rolls Royce Dining Experience!
My experience at this restaurant was akin to dining like a Rolls Royce. The food, encompassing Sushis, Nigiris, and Special Rolls, was exceptionally good. I will definitely be returning the next time I am in San Francisco.
It was so gooooood 😍.

Perfect Solo Sushi Spot
My experience at this restaurant was great for a quick sashimi/nigiri snack. The sushi bar makes it an ideal place for solo diners. The wasabi was legit.
Enjoy 🤷🏼

Excellent Sushi and Sake Experience
Our last evening in SF landed us here for a truly delicious meal. The sake was excellent, with less common offerings, and the sushi was absolutely top notch. Super fresh, generously cut, and thoughtfully prepared.
And I felt like the price was reasonable given the quality and quantity of food.

Disappointing Flavors and Textures
My experience at this restaurant was really disappointing. I ordered the Kuma salad, chawanmushi, sashimi, and a ponzu dish. While everything felt fresh enough, the preparation was uninspired, resulting in bland and mushy flavors and textures.
The service also received a low rating.

Good Starters, Rolls Fell Apart
My experience at the restaurant was mixed. The balls of fire starter was good. However, the octopus could have been more tender.
The sushi rolls tasted good, but they didn't hold up properly and would fall apart upon picking up.

Exceptional Culinary Experience with Chef Ryo Sakai
My experience at this restaurant was a wonderful culinary journey. Chef/owner Ryo Sakai was meticulously attentive, carefully observing our pleasure and expertly suggesting our next courses. The Sashimi, Sushi, and salads were all excellent.

Kuma on Valencia: A Sushi Lover's Dream
My experience at Kuma on Valencia was truly exceptional. As someone who is picky about sushi, this place consistently impresses me. I've visited three times in person and ordered delivery twice, and each time the fish has been fresh, generous, and just really good.
For those looking to splurge, their nigiri is a must-try, offering a wide selection of beautifully prepared cuts. The toro handroll is incredibly decadent, and even their regular rolls are described as 'deliciousssss'. A standout dish was the Zeitgeist roll, featuring toro, eggplant tempura, and purple rice – a true work of art.
The sake menu is awesome, and the staff is genuinely kind. The sushi bar provides a fun buzz without being overwhelming, making it a versatile spot for a casual weeknight meal or a longer dinner where you'll want to keep ordering 'one more thing'.

Disappointing Service Despite Good Sushi
My experience at this restaurant was disappointing due to their lack of accommodation for takeout requests. I found it insane that they don't offer hon wasabi from the tube or stem as a takeout item. The one time I was able to get them to say yes, it was a lie and I didn't get anything.
Despite the sushi tasting good, I'm genuinely not interested in ordering from here ever again so long as Sushi Shio exists. The packaging is cute, but they really need to work on their accommodations. One of the sushi I ordered was really fishy, yet they did nothing to help.
