Favorite 80s Chinese Food Spot
My experience at this restaurant was a trip back to the 1980s, a time when this place was my favorite and remains so even now when I return to the City. We often went there after playing golf. My favorite dishes were the Beef with Chinese Green in Hong Kong style and Clam in the Pod.
In the 80s, we paid between $3. 00 to $5. 00 for a plate.

Delicious Food, Great Service, Will Return
I visited with my family and we ordered several dishes. The food was delicious, and I appreciated that it wasn't overly salted. The price was decent, and the customer service was good.
I'm definitely coming back.

Hidden Gem with Great Food!
My experience at this restaurant was a mixed bag. The servings were large, and the food was really good. I also appreciated the great customer service.
However, the restaurant is a bit hidden, making it hard to find. The atmosphere was not the greatest, and the place was a little dirty.

Great Honest Cantonese Food!
It's wonderful to hear that this restaurant has been around since 1885, though it has operated under a couple of different names. The location is a bit hidden as it’s situated on the basement level. The other customers dining here appear to be locals who visit regularly.
I hope this restaurant continues to thrive for as long as possible! The food is great honest Cantonese cuisine. We really loved the Pork Ribs in Spicy Salt, which were crispy and flavourful.
They also offer lunch specials and their set menus are great value, especially for seafood lovers.

Classic Chinatown Basement Gem
My experience at Kam Lok, a classic San Francisco Chinatown basement-style restaurant, was positive. I had the runny egg shrimp chow fun for $12, which was delicious and had ample wok flavor. The dish was well-executed, especially considering the plainness of chow fun and egg, requiring a good gravy.
While their menu is somewhat limited, focusing more on family-style dishes with only one page for rice and noodles, they offer off-menu items like the crispy Hong Kong style noodles if you ask. The service was excellent. Don't rely solely on the written menu; inquire about other options.

Authentic Cantonese Gem with a Bargain
My experience at this restaurant was primarily focused on the authentic Cantonese food. The pork belly with preserved veg was absolutely mindblowingly delicious, described as so tender and juicy. I was pleasantly surprised by the value, as it only cost $12 at lunchtime, which was considered a great deal.
The service was fine. However, the decor was a bit rundown and the restaurant's basement location meant there wasn't much light. Despite the atmosphere, I would recommend this place.

Phenomenal Food, Terrible Cleanliness
My experience at this restaurant was a stark contrast between exceptional food and a deeply concerning lack of cleanliness. The walnut shrimp and garlic green beans were phenomenal, truly some of the best I've ever had. The complimentary tea served was a nice touch.
However, the garlic eggplant and mapo tofu were just okay. While the service was great and I enjoyed the casual atmosphere, the biggest takeaway was the restaurant's condition. It was one of the dirtiest I've ever visited, with grime on menus, walls, and in the restroom.
My tea even had a fly in it, and the replacement had an eyelash. I hope this review encourages them to undertake a serious deep-cleaning soon.

Authentic Cantonese, Never Disappoints!
My go-to place for authentic Cantonese dishes, just like grandparents used to make for family dinner. This place never disappoints. Go and bring your appetite!
