Innovative Asian Dishes & Great Service
My experience at this restaurant was incredibly positive! It's one of the most innovative restaurants I’ve been to in San Francisco. They consistently refresh their menu with the coolest Asian dishes.
The servers were super nice, and the food arrived quickly. I highly recommend the shiitake egg tofu, salted egg kabocha, and any of their carbonaras!

Good Food, A Bit Pricey
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times now. I would recommend going for happy hour for the best deals. Everything tastes good, but it is a little pricey, and there weren't any dishes that are absolute must-haves for me.

Amazing Food, Cute Decor, Minor Seating Issue
My experience at this restaurant was overwhelmingly positive, making it one of the best meals I've had in a while. The decor was super cute and unique, with charming cat paintings on the walls that contributed to a cozy, homey feel. The service was excellent; the food arrived very quickly, and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the dishes.
I particularly loved the omurice and the tuna dish, with the mango sushi being a surprisingly unique and delicious option. All the dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented, looking as good as they tasted. The lychee non-alcoholic spritz was also a standout – incredibly refreshing and a perfect complement to the meal.
The only downside was the seating, which was a bit squished, making it slightly difficult for our group to enter and exit our table. Despite this minor inconvenience, I would definitely return, especially for that amazing tuna dish.

Overcooked Food, Awful Cocktails
My experience at this restaurant involved trying their combo, bacon set, seafood set, and some handrolls. The food was just okay, unfortunately a bit overcooked. The cocktails were awful.
Considering the price point, I believe there’s much better yakitori available in the Bay.

Exceptional Service and Menu Navigation!
My experience at this restaurant was exceptional, particularly with the service. The reviewer described the ordering process using the "Chrome Browser Menu Button" as being like the cockpit of a plane, where everything needed is within arm's reach. Accessing bookmarks or customizing settings was a breeze, akin to having a personal assistant ready to help fetch favorite sites and settings.
The reviewer also rated Service, Atmosphere, and Food as a perfect 5 out of 5.

Mixed Feelings on Happy Hour Eats
I came in for happy hour and ordered several items. The chicken thighs were good (4/5), and the Chasu was smoky and simple, though a little dry (4/5). I also enjoyed the Gyoza, finding them tasty and juicy despite not usually being a dumpling person (4/5).
The Ankimo was delicious and paired well with sake, though a bit much on its own (5/5). However, the salted egg chicken wings were too artificial for my taste, though my partner enjoyed them (3/5). The biggest disappointment was the spicy tuna handroll, which was not fresh at all – I'd say stay away at all costs (1/5).
The service was also a major letdown; the staff were rude, rushed, and seemed bothered by our requests (2/5).

Modern Vibe, Dependable Flavors
My experience at Chome was defined by its clean, contemporary feel, making it a great place to unwind over a good meal. The menu offered a nice variety, and most of the dishes were flavorful and nicely presented. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the overall quality was consistent.
While a few items didn’t leave a lasting impression, the dining experience as a whole was enjoyable. The service was friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere added to the appeal. It’s a great option if you're in the area and looking for a stylish spot with dependable food.

A Vegetarian Dream with Minor Quibbles
This place is so good, it feels like it should only exist in my imagination, but thankfully, some amazing people made it a reality. The menu is truly amazing, especially for those looking to avoid meat. The service was also good.
My only complaint is the lack of a drinks menu, but that wouldn't stop me from returning here 100 more times.

Quirky Izakaya Gem in the Mission
We stumbled upon Chome while just walking past in San Francisco’s Mission district and decided to check it out for dinner. We walked in with no reservations or wait and were seated right away. This quirky Japanese izakaya feels like a hidden gem in the neighborhood, and it was the perfect spot for a casual, flavorful meal.
Atmosphere: This cozy spot channels a quirky, offbeat vibe in the Mission. It features intimate seating with about 20-30 spots in its expanded location on 26th Street, simple wooden tables, dim lighting, and an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs grill over binchotan charcoal. The decor is minimalist and charming, with that neighborhood izakaya feel – lively during dinner but never too crowded, drawing a mix of locals and foodies.
It's perfect for a relaxed evening out in SF. Menu: The menu is eclectic and fun, focusing on robatayaki (charcoal-grilled skewers of meats, veggies, and seafood), creative nigiri and handrolls, ramen options like fiery lobster or vegan varieties, and small plates including karaage, edamame, and desserts. They’ve got sake, beer, and cocktails to pair, with prices around $8-15 for skewers and $20-30 for larger dishes.
There's no strict omakase, but plenty of quirky twists on Japanese pub fare. Food: The Assorted Robatayaki Skewers were the highlight, with a mix of grilled items like tender beef, chicken with spicy mayo, bacon-wrapped dates or enoki, brussels sprouts in creamy sauce, pork belly with lemon, and shiitake mushrooms, all charred perfectly over binchotan for that smoky depth. Each skewer had unique toppings and sauces – juicy, flavorful, and creative without being overcomplicated.
It's a great shareable platter that showcases their grilling skills; we’d order this again for the variety and balance. We also enjoyed the Nigiri Selection. We got a plate of fresh nigiri bites, including tuna with microgreens and yuzu, salmon topped with tobiko and pineapple, fatty toro with avocado, and a tartare-style ahi, all on perfectly seasoned rice wrapped in nori.
The fish was high-quality and melt-in-your-mouth, with fun, unexpected flavor combos that elevated the classics. Fresh, vibrant, and portioned just right for sharing, it's amazing for sushi lovers seeking something quirky. To end, the Matcha Pavlova Dessert was a light and refreshing treat.
It featured a fluffy meringue topped with matcha powder, set in a green matcha sauce, and surrounded by fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and dragonfruit, garnished with mint. It was creamy yet airy, with a nice tart-sweet contrast from the fruits and subtle bitterness from the matcha – not too heavy after a savory meal, and a creative twist on a classic dessert. Service: No reservations were needed for our small group, and we were helped right away on a weekday.
The staff were super friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations on skewer pairings and pacing the meal well. Tips: Reservations for parties of 4 or more can be made via text a day ahead, as it can get busy. They’re closed Mondays and open for happy hour in the early evenings – check for specials like discounted skewers.
Parking in the Mission is street-only and tricky, so using public transit or rideshare is recommended. Customize your order with extra sauces, and pair with sake for the full izakaya experience. Overall: Was it worth the visit?
Absolutely. Chome delivers eccentric Japanese bites with standout skewers and a cozy Mission vibe that’s pure SF charm. We’ll be back for more robatayaki next time we’re in town.
