Cafe Madeleine - Reviews

My building receives daily deliveries from Cafe Madeleine. I absolutely love the almond cream-filled pastry, but its consistency is a major issue. Often, there's very little filling, almost to the point of being non-existent. Other times, the filling is abundant, and it's amazing. I wish there was a generous amount of filling every day, as it makes the pastry sooooo good and bursting with flavor! Additionally, please bring back the chocolate-filled pastry. The replacement you introduced a couple of years ago is nowhere near as good!

I was in town visiting and came here multiple times because it was so good. The service was quick and the ube croissant was incredible. Just the right amount of sweetness. It's hard to wow me with a tea, but their English Breakfast was excellent.

As a former employee, I can attest to the hard work the staff puts in daily. Despite a small front-of-house team, especially after COVID closures, they strive to keep things running smoothly. The café gets very busy due to regular customers, catering orders, delivery apps, and partner requests, which can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, the team makes a genuine effort to provide great service. Café Madeline is a family business, and the team truly cares about offering customers the best possible experience, drawing on skills honed by the owner's time in France. The work environment was always supportive. While challenges like difficult customers or safety concerns arose, the staff consistently aimed for excellent customer service, with genuine effort evident even on tough days. It's important to remember the staff are human, working hard to make every experience positive.

My experience at this bakery was exceptional. They were the only ones willing to create a custom cheesecake for me, and they absolutely crushed it. The pistachio cheesecake with raspberry crème on top was both beautiful and tasty. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the price was good. I highly recommend this bakery.

My experience at this restaurant was marked by deceptive pricing practices. They deceptively list their prices and then charge a fee of their own invention, which is not legally required or set by the city. A clear indicator that this fee is fabricated is that not all restaurants impose it, and those that do charge varying amounts. This practice is akin to drip pricing, similar to what Ticketmaster used to do, and is inherently dishonest.

My experience at Cafe Madeline was fantastic, especially considering they offer a solid lunch for under $15 in 2024. It's a real win! The chicken pot pie was exceptional, possibly one of the best I've ever had, featuring a nice chicken medley and a wonderfully flaky crust. It even comes with a salad, which is a great bonus. The staff working the counter were consistently pleasant, and they also have a tempting selection of sweet treats.

I was initially a bit worried when I walked into Cafe Madeleine due to some 1-star reviews. However, I just needed some desserts to go and bought a box of 4. The staff, though busy, were friendly and offered suggestions for the most popular cakes. Each cake was $7, which I found to be a really good deal in downtown SF. & I have to tell you, it tastes like heaven. Love it. Now it will be my go-to place for dessert after Henry's Hunan on Nantoma St.
