Exceptional Fine Dining Steakhouse Experience
My experience at Alexander’s Steakhouse was that of a total gem for anyone who loves a fine dining steak experience with a creative twist. The steaks were beautifully cooked and packed with flavor. I loved the little Japanese touches throughout the menu.
The service was polished but still warm, and the presentation of each dish was gorgeous. It’s the kind of place where everything—from the first bite to dessert—feels thoughtfully done. Perfect for a special night out.

Disappointing Wagyu Experience
My experience at the restaurant was largely defined by the food, which was a significant letdown. I had the Porterhouse steak, which was just okay — nothing special. We also ordered the Wagyu filet, and it was a complete disappointment.
It wasn’t juicy at all, didn’t taste like Wagyu, and felt like a regular, cold piece of steak. Honestly, it tasted like any average steak, not what you’d expect for that price or quality. The service and atmosphere received a rating of 4, but the food score was a low 1.

Excellent Food and Service, Surcharge Deducts a Star
I had an amazing bone-in ribeye here tonight, which was the best steak I've had in a while. The sides were also excellent, though a bit large for one person. The wine by the glass selection was great, and the service was first class.
I'm only deducting one star because the restaurant management added a 3% San Francisco surcharge to the bill. I strongly believe these costs should be included in the food prices, just like all other expenses. So, while the food and service were 5-star, the management's pricing strategy was not.

Excellent Food, Special Occasion Worth the Price
My experience at Alexanders was great, especially for a special occasion like my mom's birthday. The food was amazing. Although they didn't have moscatos, the sommelier quickly found a comparable dessert wine.
My mom thoroughly enjoyed her halibut. We shared some wagyu, which was fantastic and melted in your mouth. The other guests had steaks; while the cut was great, the knife struggled with a medium-rare preparation.
We also enjoyed the oysters with blueberry vinegar sauce and the steak tartar, which was to die for. The little gem salad was just okay. For sides, the truffle fries were absolutely delicious and not overpowering, and we also had mashed potatoes and green beans.
For dessert, we tried the parfait, a chocolate option, and the sorbet trio. The presentation was a perfect 10/10. The atmosphere received a 7/10, and as noted in other reviews, it was a bit blah.
Overall, the food was great, and despite being very pricey, it was worth it for a special occasion. The birthday treat of cotton candy and chocolates was a sweet gesture.

Phenomenal Steaks and Service!
Man oh man. My experience at this restaurant was truly exceptional. The steaks were top notch, and the bone marrow was a definite 'wow' moment.
The wagyu was simply phenomenal. To top it off, the desserts were also 'oh man' good. The service was amazing, and the little extras provided by the staff were equally impressive.
The atmosphere was rated a 5, with a quiet noise level perfect for easy conversation. The food received a perfect 5 score.

Delicious Steak, But Pricey
My experience at the restaurant was with T-bone steak and Tomyok. I went with my father, Gary, and it was delicious. The Tomyok portion was enough for 4 people.
However, the price was a bit expensive. 🥩

Best Steak, But Too Fancy for Me
I visited this restaurant specifically for a steak, anticipating it would be expensive, and I was not disappointed with the quality – it was the best steak of my trip. However, the overall experience felt a bit too fancy for my personal taste, particularly with some of the sides and offerings. Despite this, the restaurant truly overdelivered on the steak, even if the style wasn't entirely my preference.
The kitchen was kind enough to provide a couple of free samplers, though I felt I wasn't their target audience with their focus on fancy, deconstructed, and bougie items that I'm sure many others adore. As many have noted, they genuinely know their steaks and prepare them exceptionally well. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dessert and cotton candy.

Excellent Steakhouse Experience!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! I was lucky to have visited this place on a random occasion and it turned out to be one of the best steak houses in town. The steaks were perfect, and the appetizers are a must-try, especially the bread!
I definitely recommend paying it a visit when you're close by.

Mixed Experience at Alexander's Steakhouse
I visited Alexander's for a birthday celebration and had a mixed experience. In some ways, they went above and beyond, while in others, we were a little miffed. The restaurant definitely has the feel of a classic steakhouse in its decor, service, and presentation, which might appeal to some.
The new space is nice but felt a bit generic, empty, and stuffy on a Saturday night. However, the staff was very positive and pleasant, and we enjoyed their wine recommendations and interactions. The cocktails were sweet but still good, and the wine list is extensive, particularly for Burgundy.
Appetizers were enjoyable. The two main misses were a really long wait between appetizers and entrees with no apology, which seemed odd given the mostly empty restaurant, and then a tough and undercooked steak. For a $100 steak, we expected more, especially since it's their specialty.
We imagine Alexander's would have offered to make it right, but after waiting nearly 40 minutes for it, we weren't willing to wait any longer. We greatly appreciated that they still served a candle and a small dessert, even though we hadn't ordered any. That was a very nice and appreciated gesture.
I think this could be a much better experience; perhaps we just caught them on an off night. We did not try any Wagyu, their specialty.
