Spectacular Food, Ambiance, and Service
My experience at Ula was spectacular from start to finish. The food was exceptional, the ambiance was beautiful, and the service was outstanding. If you're seeking an elevated yet comfortable dining experience in San Francisco's Union Square, Ula is a definite winner. I highly recommend it.

Delicious Lamb Near Union Square
What a great experience! The lamb was absolutely delicious. The service was good, and it turned out to be a nice discovery close to Union Square.

Terrible Service, Disappointing Experience
My experience at Ula was marred by terrible service. The server acted as if our presence was an imposition. She brought all the small plates at once, resulting in the shrimp becoming cold and gross by the time we could eat it. When we requested to speak with the owner/manager, we were told he had gone home, only for him to reappear as we were leaving, offering to 'make it right' if we returned the next night. This was not an option as we were departing the following day, and we would not have returned under any circumstances. Adding to the insult, a 20% tip was automatically added for a table of two without prior notice, with the server stating 'everybody's doing it. ' Their website did not mention this policy. While management often replies to negative reviews online, stating that bad service is 'not their norm' and will be 'addressed, ' it's clear nothing changes. There are too many great restaurants in San Francisco to waste time and money here.

Beautiful Ambiance, Poor Food & Service
We chose this place because of its design and rating. The atmosphere and decor are truly beautiful, and the lady who welcomed us at the entrance was very kind. However, the cocktail we ordered was really disappointing, and the food was unfortunately below expectations. The service was also quite poor. Only one blonde lady who served us was polite and attentive — she was genuinely kind and helpful. On the other hand, one of the waiters spoke to us very rudely, even leaning on our table while talking. Despite the venue’s lovely ambiance, both the service and the food quality were well below average. I do appreciate that the items we didn’t like were removed from the bill, which was a thoughtful gesture.

Ula: Refined Mediterranean Dining
My experience at Ula Restaurant & Tapas Bar in San Francisco was a delightful Mediterranean-European seafood dining adventure. Located at 450 Post Street near Union Square, Ula specializes in seafood, grilled meats, handmade pasta, and tapas, with excellent options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. I particularly enjoyed the signature dishes like the octopus salad, tuna tartare, eggplant carpaccio, and lamb chops. The interior is a feast for the eyes, featuring a maximalist art-deco design with maritime-themed décor that creates a warm and romantic atmosphere. The Jellyfish Bar is a casual spot for drinks and tapas, offering a selection of cocktails and wine. The service was attentive and the ambiance was stylish and intimate, making it ideal for romantic dinners or special occasions. While the food quality, especially the seafood and tapas, was high, the service can be slow during peak hours. Overall, Ula offers a refined Mediterranean dining experience in central San Francisco.

Wonderful Food & Atmosphere, Service Lacking
I really wish I could give more than 3 stars because the food was wonderful and the atmosphere was even better. However, the service was lacking. Our waitress was very kind, as were the bartender and manager. But, they forgot to make/bring my husband's drink (twice) and mine (once). They also forgot to make/bring my entrée which was the most surprising. For the price point, the atmosphere was spot on, the food was close (late and a few sandy oysters), but the service needs elevation.

Disappointing Menu Accuracy and Added Gratuity
I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The menu on their website was not current, which was a significant letdown as I had specifically chosen the restaurant for their crab cakes and vegetarian options. Additionally, a gratuity was added for a party of 4, which felt unexpected.

Incredible Food, Limited Vegan Options
My experience at this restaurant was largely positive, with incredible food and a wonderful atmosphere. The appetizer, featuring tomatoes and burrata cheese, was fantastic. While I wished for more vegan options, the sauce on the gnocchi was truly exceptional. The service and food were rated a perfect 5, contributing to a great overall dining experience.

Ridiculous Food and Prices
My experience at this restaurant was ridiculous. We went before a show next door, and while the menu indicated several vegan options, our server informed us that even dishes marked as vegan were not. Consequently, we ordered two bowls of soup, bread, olives, and one soft drink. The bill came to $98, which included tax, a 5% health charge, and a 20% tip. The bread was burnt toast, and the food was terrible.

A Laughable Experience with Exorbitant Costs
My experience at this restaurant was one of utter disappointment, bordering on laughable. The crab bruschetta was comparable to something from a grocery store deli, and the meatballs were as dry as a forgotten cookout. To add to the misery, the beer arrived warm. While the experience was so comically bad it almost made the exorbitant tab worth it, it's a pleasure bred from truly laughable moments.
