Delicious Mexican Food and Lively Atmosphere
My experience at Puerto Alegre was fantastic! It's a tasty spot for Mexican food. The tacos and grilled meats were incredibly flavorful, and the salsas and sides were wonderfully fresh and vibrant. The atmosphere is casual and lively, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends or family.

Strong Margaritas, Great Food, Live Music!
I've been here a few times and consistently find the margaritas to be strong. The food is always great, and the atmosphere is enhanced by a live mariachi band playing.

Frustratingly Inconsistent Hours
This is one of my favorite places to eat in SF. However, I'm consistently frustrated by their operating hours, as they seem to be closed every time I want to visit. For instance, it's currently 5: 30 PM on a Sunday, and they are not open. These weird hours make it almost impossible to dine here, which is incredibly frustrating.

Great Burrito, Fun Music, Pricey Margs
I had a great burrito during my dinner experience. The restaurant also did a great job keeping the chips and salsa available on the table. While the margs were expensive, which is expected in SF, they were still tasty. A live band played fun music while we were eating, adding to the atmosphere.

Pet-Friendly, But Not For Me
My experience at this restaurant was mixed. While the customer service was rated A+ and I personally did not experience a wait, I found the presence of dogs to be uncomfortable and unsanitary. Dogs were in the booths, under tables, and in the doorway. One dog was barking. Although it's pet friendly, I took my food to go and am glad I only came once.

Old School Charm with Solid Food
Puerto Alegre has been a long-standing establishment for a good reason. The food is solid, and the service is excellent. I had the Chile Verde Pork House Special, which came with 3 warm tortillas, beans, rice, salad, and stewed pork. Everything was delicious, and there was a good portion of pork meat. The service was truly spot on; I didn't have to ask for anything. The atmosphere is definitely old school Mission District. I first ate here in 1995, and aside from the prices, it hasn't changed at all. Did I mention they serve big pitchers of margaritas? People go bananas for them here. When it's really busy, it can be difficult to get a table, and you might have to wait 30-60 minutes to be seated. Overall, it was a great experience at Puerto Alegre, and I highly recommend this business.

Fun for Margaritas, but Changed
I liked this place more years ago than the way it is set up today. However, it's still a fun place for margaritas.

Fantastic Mission Spot with Great Food and Service
My experience at this restaurant in the Mission was wonderful. After visiting an art gallery, my group of five was warmly welcomed. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating, seating us in moments. We were soon enjoying margaritas, chips, guacamole, and salsa, with our food arriving shortly after. I highly recommend the chicharrones in red sauce, though any dish is a safe bet. A note for visitors: they now close at 9 pm on Fridays. Whether you come alone or with a group, you're guaranteed a good time. The presence of a bar and TVs adds to the entertainment.

Mediocre Food, Terrible Service
My experience at this restaurant was largely disappointing due to the mediocre food and terrible service. There was a significant lack of communication between the staff. For instance, I was asked if I wanted another pitcher of margaritas, only to find out that another staff member had already ordered it for us. To make matters worse, it took 15 minutes for the pitcher to arrive, which is unacceptable, especially since the restaurant wasn't busy. The server who brought the pitcher even apologized for the delay. The pozole was watered down to the point where even the green salsa couldn't salvage it. While I will return because my friend likes the place, I would never recommend it for out-of-towners.
