Disappointing Italian, Decent New Yorker
My experience at this restaurant was mixed. While the New Yorker sandwich was good, I was very disappointed with the Italian sandwich. It was the worst Italian I've ever had, and I suspect they used Miracle Whip on it.
I won't be ordering the Italian again.

Disappointing Return Experience
I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years, always friendly and a good customer. Recently, my friend picked up the wrong bottle of whiskey. While I would have kept it, it was overpriced by more than $40.
I called immediately and was reluctantly told I could return it. After a couple of days, I returned with the receipt, only to have to re-explain the authorized return. I was then chastised by the kid at the counter and listened to a lengthy call with an owner, which resulted in my refund being shorted by $7.
85. When I insisted on the full promised refund, I had to endure another long call while a line formed and the staff member meandered. Despite my calm reiteration that the return was approved and they knew me as a regular, the situation escalated.
The employee then told me, "Don't give me attitude bro, " which I denied, calmly stating the issue. He then loudly accused me of having an attitude, claimed returning alcohol was illegal, and that I waited too long. He finally dropped the $7.
85 on the counter with an attitude. I informed him that this experience meant I would no longer do business there. His attempt to antagonize me over such a petty issue is baffling, especially considering my long-standing patronage and respectful demeanor.
This, combined with the extreme price hike for the deli, has led me to seek alcohol from the supermarket next door and Windmill Farms, both of which offer comparable selections at better prices. It's a shame.

Price Hike Mars Great Sandwiches
My experience at this restaurant was bittersweet. The sandwiches are truly the best in town, a testament to the quality I've enjoyed since the late 80s and early 90s. The Deli staff are amazing and contribute positively to the experience.
However, the recent, huge increase in price, implemented by the new owners, is a major drawback. Prices have jumped by $8-10, with some sandwiches now costing $20. This significant price hike makes the once-great value questionable, which is a shame.

Generous Portions, Great Value Deli Sandwiches
My experience at this restaurant was centered around their excellent generous deli sandwiches. I paid $15 for mine, and I can confidently say that you definitely get what you pay for. The portions are huge, significantly larger than what you'd get at a Vons deli – about twice the size.
Next time, I might consider splitting a sandwich or taking half home. The service was top-notch, rated a 5 out of 5, and the food quality was also excellent, receiving a 5 out of 5. The atmosphere was rated a 3, and there was no wait time.
While it's a fully stocked liquor store, which some parents might not find kid-friendly, they do offer vegetarian offerings and a vegetarian menu or section. Parking is convenient with a free parking lot that has plenty of space. The price per person is estimated between $10–20.

Delicious Sandwiches and Great Service!
After a hike at Cowles Mountain, I was incredibly hungry. My friend and I each ordered two sandwiches. I tried the New Yorker, which was absolutely delicious with its three meats: roast beef, pastrami, & corned beef!
My friend loved the Chipotle Baja. I also ordered the TBAC (turkey, bacon, avocado, & cheese) and only managed to eat half because I was so full – it was amazing! The remaining half tasted just as incredible at home.
My friend's second sandwich, the Turkey Baja, was his favorite of the two. This spot is conveniently located inside a liquor store, making it a one-stop shop. You can also eat there, not just take out.
The service was great and the store was clean, which is always a plus! I'll definitely be coming back!

Amazing Sandwich Place, Wish It Was Closer!
My experience at this restaurant was absolutely amazing! My husband and I live in Las Vegas, but every time we visit San Diego, we make it a point to eat here at least once. My only wish is that they would open a location here in Vegas.

Overpriced Croissant at Breakfast
My experience at this restaurant for breakfast was centered around the price of a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. At $15. 99, I found it to be excessively expensive.
For that amount, one could purchase an entire carton of eggs, a whole package of croissants, and a pack of bacon, which highlights the perceived lack of value for money.

New Management, New Prices, Smaller Sandwiches
This place used to be one of the best delis in San Diego, with huge sandwiches. The staff was friendly, and the store was clean. I loved San Carlos.
However, under new management, they have downsized their sandwiches and significantly increased prices, which is ridiculous. It's not my favorite anymore. 😩

Best Subs in Town!
I discovered this hidden gem two weeks ago after hiking Cowles Mountain. I haven't stopped thinking about the subs since. I came back and am eating one right now.
These are the best subs in town.
