Great Food, Friendly Staff, Affordable Price
It was hard to find good food at an affordable price, but Gim Wah delivered for our group of four. We sat in the dining room and had a great experience with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food came out at a good pace and was cooked to perfection.
The Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken were the stars of the show. If you want a nice spread of Chinese food in the Magnolia area that leaves your stomach and wallet happy, I can think of no better spot.

Surprisingly Delicious Chinese Food!
My experience at this restaurant was an absolute MUST! It's perfect for either takeout or dining in at the bar. The bar staff are an all-star cast of curmudgeonly characters, and they even offer jello-shots.
The food is exactly the Chinese I'm looking for, and shockingly, it's even better than expected. The sweet and sour chicken and the moo shu are my personal favorites. While you might not feel great about the health implications of your decision to eat here, your soul will give you a pass, especially since you're helping keep a neighborhood small business alive.
An added bonus is the bar's jukebox, though it's a new digital one, where you can pick your own music!

Authentic East Coast Chinese Gem
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! I enjoyed the best authentic American (east coast) Chinese food. The almond fried chicken, Mongolian beef, and sweet and sour pork were all delicious, along with other menu items.
It's a true institution in Magnolia.

Disappointing Portion Sizes for Dinner
My experience ordering dinner for two was quite disappointing. We received only 3 pieces of Bbq pork, 3 deep fried prawns, and 3 pieces of sweet and sour pork, which felt insufficient for two people. The food itself was okay, but the portion size was a major letdown.

Worst Chinese Food Experience
My experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. I ordered General's Chicken, and while I understand it might be their version, what I received was not General's Chicken and tasted terrible. This was easily the worst Chinese food I've ever had, even compared to food from the Navajo Reservation.
I will never return. The host/server guy was nice, though.

Terrible Experience at Gim Wah
My partner and I recently moved to Magnolia and wanted to try local places. Gim Wah was next on our list, which turned out to be a terrible decision. We ordered takeout and experienced a 10-minute wait after arriving.
Upon getting home, the food was lukewarm at best and nothing was fresh. The only item I could eat was the fried rice, but it was still extremely underwhelming. Both my partner and I felt unwell afterward, and my partner ended up getting sick.
If you're considering Gim Wah, don't do it.

Old School American Chinese Done Right
My experience at this restaurant was that of an old school American style Chinese restaurant, not an upscale boutique one. For what it is, they are awesome. I highly recommend trying the Oyster sauce Beef, the Gim Wah chicken, and Almond chicken.
While none of these dishes will win any culinary awards, if you throw down another Gin and Tonic and order some chicken chop suey, you will love it!

Solid food, great drinks, old school gem
My experience at Gim Wah was very positive. I found the food to be solid and the drinks to be great and strong. The bar and barkeepers were excellent.
It's an old-school establishment, a true relic, and I believe Gim Wah is the best.

Disappointing Dining Experience
My dining experience was quite something. The food was drowning in cooking oil, and the dining room had an unpleasant smell of pee and mildew. We also noticed dead cockroaches in the entrance.
While I've heard the bar might be okay, this particular dining experience was very negative. I recommend eating here so you can see what I'm talking about.
