Lively Spot, Okay Reuben
My experience at this lively local spot was marked by a good atmosphere and decent service. The restaurant offers a variety of beers on tap. I tried the red Reuben sandwich, which, while it got the job done, wasn't something I'd rush to order again.
I would try something different if I ever return.

Masterful Gumbo, Slow Service
My experience at 74th Street Ale House was centered around their gumbo, a dish I'm very familiar with, both from eating and cooking. The restaurant truly masters this complex and flavorful dish. The key, as I know it, is the roux – a slow browning of flour, olive oil, and canola oil.
They then add a generous amount of vegetables, meats, and spices to the broth, simmering it for hours. The result is a gumbo served over rice that was as delicious as ever. I also enjoyed some delicious, spiced nuts as an appetizer.
However, the service was slow.

Great Local Pub with Flavorful Food
My experience at this excellent local pub was fantastic. I tried the salad, Reuben, and chili, and all were great with just the right spice. This is not a place for those seeking bland food, but rather for those who appreciate well-seasoned dishes.
The sports on TV kept the atmosphere lively. While I skipped the beer, the liquor selection covered all the basics.

Painfully Sub-Par Service, Edible Food
I visited towards the end of the evening after a Car Show. While I understand staff might be tired, it wasn't busy when I arrived. Unfortunately, this doesn't excuse the service I received.
I sat outside and waited for waitstaff who never came. I went inside for a menu and waited again. I then returned outside to decide on my order, but it seemed I was forgotten, as I had to go back inside to order food and drink at the bar.
About fifteen to twenty minutes later, the bartender informed me he forgot my order. To add to the experience, even after finishing my meal, I had to seek out staff to pay my bill. I was almost surprised they didn't ask me to bus my own dishes.
In summary, the service was painfully sub-par. Regarding the food, it was acceptable. However, the gumbo was topped with a three-pepper salsa that made the dish excessively spicy rather than complementing its flavors.
It was borderline inedible, especially for someone who dislikes spicy food. The salad was good, but that's expected for a salad. I've heard other items are tasty, but I cannot personally vouch for them.
I might consider returning, but the service left much to be desired, so we will see.

Fantastic Reuben and Friendly Staff
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic. The Reuben sandwich was incredibly good, with the bread grilled to perfection, making it taste so good it felt unhealthy. The staff was friendly, and they consistently have Ruebens Porter on tap.
I eat here all the time.

Perfect Lamb Burger, Nice Location
We shared a lamb burger and it was done perfectly. It came with a delicious side salad. The neighborhood location is nice.
However, there is no off-street parking and it can be somewhat difficult to find parking.
