Good Catfish and Greens, Okay Mac and Cheese
My experience at the restaurant involved trying the catfish plate, which came with mac and cheese and greens. The catfish and greens were really good! However, the mac and cheese could have been better. The service and atmosphere were rated a 5, and the food a 4.

Horrible Food and Service
My experience at this restaurant was absolutely horrible. I've given them three chances, and I'm done. Despite wanting to support Black businesses, the level of customer service and the horrible food are just too much. Today, I ordered Chicken tenders & fries and a Sammy burger combo. The chicken strips were hot on the outside but frozen cold in the middle. The Sammy burger was like a lump of coal, making me feel like I was on the naughty list. Never again!

Extremely Poor Food and Service
I usually don't write reviews, but consider this a caution: the food quality here is extremely poor and overpriced. It seemed heavily microwaved, as I even heard beeps in the background. The place itself is pretty tacky. The staff wasn't welcoming, even when I gave a $20 tip just for sauce. The food tasted awful, respectfully. The mac and cheese was like pasta with a little cheese, the fries were soggy and mushy, and the potato salad was nasty, leaving a gagging feeling. The cornbread tasted like dirt, even with honey, and was dry. After eating, my stomach instantly felt pain and nausea. Overall, don't come here unless you like to waste money, eat nasty food, and feel sick.

Amazing Southern Food in a Humble Spot
My experience at this restaurant was a delightful surprise. I was looking for "cheap food near me" and this place popped up. Although it's located in a run-down store, the owner was incredibly nice. The food was amazing; everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you're craving Southern Food, this is definitely the place to go. We ordered the Seafood Plate and the Chicken Tenders Plate, and the portions were so generous that each plate provided enough food for two meals.

A True Gem with Melt-in-Your-Mouth Catfish!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The food was delicious every time. I particularly enjoyed the catfish, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and melted in your mouth on the inside. I highly recommend getting the collards on the side. This place is a true gem!

Hidden Gem for Soul Food!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! Visiting from California, I was craving soul food but found myself in downtown Bellevue with limited options. After searching online, I stumbled upon this hidden gem and couldn't have been more pleased. The food was amazing!

Delicious Homemade Food and Great Service
My experience at the restaurant was fantastic! The food was delicious and clearly homemade. I particularly enjoyed the cod beans and rice with slaw; the fish was incredibly fresh, flaky, and had just the right amount of breading. My daughter had the Sammy burger, and we were impressed that the fries were cut from actual potatoes. While the burger was a bit spicy for my daughter, the overall meal was excellent. The service was great, and the atmosphere was simple and air-conditioned, making for a very pleasant dining experience.

Brother Bear's Salmon Plate is a Must-Try!
Brother bear, when I say go here I mean at your earliest convenience. I got the salmon plate just to try the place out, and I have to go again now. The food was so good that I'm already planning my next visit.

Patient Staff, Delicious Food!
Our large group of 9 visited right before closing on March 27, 2025. Despite it being a one-man show for the staff, he was incredibly patient and kind from start to finish. We even asked him to take a photo with us! We loved everything we ordered and were pleased with the reasonable wait time for our food. A few menu items, like the fried oysters, were unavailable. The restaurant offers free street parking and is a family-owned business, so we encourage you to stop by and support them when in the area.

Disappointing Soul Food Experience
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, my sister and I decided to try a new soul food restaurant, Soulful Dishes, in the Central District. Finding parking was a challenge, requiring us to park several blocks away. Upon entering, the ambiance felt cold and unwelcoming, with no greeting or staff presence at the service counter. We waited a considerable time before a single staff member appeared, who offered no apology, introduction, or suggestions. The lack of food aroma and the sound of a microwave beeping were concerning. I ordered fried catfish, Mac-n-Cheese, and potato salad. My sister ordered chicken tenders, Mac-n-Cheese, and collard greens. While I enjoyed the potato salad and found the collard greens flavorful, the Mac-n-Cheese and chicken tenders were just okay. My main disappointment was the catfish, which was undercooked and wet in the center, leading me to not finish my meal. The portions were also very small for the price. When I informed the staff about the undercooked catfish, I received no acknowledgment. The overall experience was poor, and to make matters worse, I experienced significant stomach upset that lasted all night. We will not be returning to Soulful Dishes; it was a bad choice.
