Disgusted by Reservation Process
I was totally disgusted with the reservation process. I made a reservation through Tock, and the email indicated the merchant charged me $600. I made every attempt to contact Tock and the restaurant, but received no answer or response.
I have made other reservations through Tock and at least received a call back from the vendor.

Amazing Salmon Belly and Uni!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The king salmon belly and the uni were absolutely amazing. I also ordered another 6pc nigiri, which was the perfect portion.
They have a great selection of sakes too. I'm happy to see such great quality food and service at such a reasonable price.

Omakase Quality Undermined by Service
My experience at the restaurant was for an omakase of this quality. However, the front desk lady was not great at customer service or explaining context, which felt super un-Japanese.

Exceptional High-End Nigiri Experience
My experience at Ju-Ni was truly outstanding. Every aspect of the visit was flawless. The shari (sushi rice) was seasoned to perfection, creating an ideal base for the fish.
The chef's masterful application of sauces and glazes was subtle, enhancing each bite without overpowering the star: the fish. The quality of the neta (toppings) was exceptional, with most ingredients, except salmon, imported directly from Japan the day before service, a freshness that was truly palpable. From the delicate madai to the uni, each piece showcased quality and skilled preparation.
It's been a long time since I've enjoyed such satisfying high-end nigiri in the Bay Area, especially post-pandemic. I highly recommend Ju-Ni for any serious sushi lover.

Disappointing Service and Overpriced Food
My experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Despite having an 8pm reservation, I had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. It's frustrating that they enforce strict arrival times for customers but don't seem to apply the same standards to themselves.
Additionally, there was a mandatory service fee, which I expected to be reflected in much better service, but that wasn't the case. The food itself was just okay, not great, especially considering the price. You can find better sushi for similar prices elsewhere.
Nothing about the meal felt special, and each nigiri lacked cohesion. The starting dish was particularly bad and didn't make sense.

Phenomenal intimate sushi experience with Chef Kevin
My experience at this restaurant was phenomenal from start to finish. The atmosphere is very intimate, with an amazing chef for every four guests. Our chef, Kevin, went all out to make this dinner one of the best meals we’ve ever had.
Hands down, it was the best sushi I’ve had. Kevin also served us some sushi he called “advanced sushi, ” which I would have been hesitant to try on my own, but by this point, Kevin had my full trust, and he did not disappoint. The price was concerning, and I went back and forth on whether to book the reservation, but in the end, I’m glad I did.
I fully recommend it and would absolutely come back.

Scammers and Ghosting - Avoid!
My experience at this restaurant was incredibly negative. I was shocked to find that they had snuck 3 dishes we did not order onto our bill. When we tried to contact them, they were completely unresponsive; phone calls went straight to voicemail with a message stating they don’t check it, and emails were also ignored.
It felt like they just scammed us and ghosted. This was an awful restaurant experience, and to make matters worse, we left still hungry, which is unusual as we frequent many nice restaurants. I strongly advise everyone to AVOID at all cost, as there are far better options available.
It seems they lost their star for a reason, and the story about their 'previous' chef being fired for stalking a food critic further highlights the kind of people who own this place.

Intimate and Fun Birthday Dining Experience
My experience at this restaurant was super fun and intimate. We celebrated my sister's birthday here, and Chef Brian made it special. He was very gracious, answering all our questions about the dishes, from their appearance and origin to his journey into the culinary business.
He provided detailed explanations of his preparation techniques and the role of each ingredient. We had a fantastic time. My personal favorites were the ikura with monkfish liver, the scallop, and the o-toro, though honestly, every dish was unique and delicious.
