My experience at this restaurant was super authentic German food with great service. I loved the experience. I especially recommend the potato pancakes and Apple strudel!

Billing and Service Issues
My experience at this restaurant involved a billing discrepancy and very slow service. I ordered a 0. 3l draft beer, but was charged for a 0.
4l beer, which isn't even an option on the menu. This resulted in a $3 overcharge compared to the menu price. Additionally, the service was really really slow, even for a Friday night, suggesting the restaurant was short staffed.

Best German Food in the Bay Area
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic. I've tried several German places in the Bay Area, and this one truly has the best food. The Wiener Schnitzel was a standout recommended dish.
The atmosphere and service were both excellent, receiving a perfect 5/5 rating. For dinner, the food quality was exceptional.

Authentic German Gem with Amazing Staff!
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The staff, including Marc, Max, and Kate, were incredibly friendly and took great care of us. The Schnitzel was amazing and truly authentic German.
I also loved that they had Frühstück Kölsch on tap. We'll definitely be regulars now!

Authentic German Food and Perfect Beer
My experience at this restaurant was fantastic! The food was good and authentic. I particularly enjoyed the Sauerkraut and currywurst, which were done just right.
Paired with their beer, it was a perfect combination. To top it off, I indulged in an apple strudel at the end. The service and atmosphere were rated a perfect 5, although the noise level was very loud, making it hard to hear.

A Timeless SF German Gem
My experience at this restaurant was top-notch. It's a true San Francisco institution that has been a part of my life since they opened. Suppenküche was groundbreaking when it first started, and thankfully, they've maintained the same dedication to quality and service throughout the years.
My children now consider it the benchmark for German restaurants in the US. I've traveled extensively and enjoyed many German restaurants across the US and Germany, and this place stands out. If you don't visit, you're truly missing out!

Great Food, Service, and Value, But Awkward Atmosphere
I hadn't been to this restaurant in a long time and was excited to go back. I forgot that there were communal tables, and we spent our dinner listening to a mother and grandmother fat-shame a child. Outside of that, the food and the drinks and the service were great.
It was also so great to get dinner and drinks with an app in the city for less than $100.

Suppenkuche: Lively German Fare & Community Gem
My experience at Suppenkuche was fantastic! I go here when I'm looking for a lively experience with solid food, great beers, and a wonderful staff. It's a fun place for going out with a group, or even to take your dog and sit outside.
Suppenkuche consistently delivers year after year. The classic German fare is excellent, and the roasted pork knuckle is insanely good with enormous portions. The staff and owner are a significant part of the community, with the owner always helping neighbors and nearby businesses, even cleaning the street daily.
The staff bring great energy to their work; they are kind, hard-working, and take good care of their customers and neighborhood. My dog would also add a star for the occasional treat! Thanks, Suppenkuche!

The Heart and Soul of Hayes Valley!
Suppenkuche is not just any restaurant; it is the gem and ✨SOUL✨ of this neighborhood! 💗 It's a community-building legacy where I've shared countless precious memories. I've hosted numerous birthdays, reunions, and spontaneous Tuesday night hangouts here.
I’ve brought many of my closest friends of all backgrounds here more times than I can count, and they’ve always felt embraced, respected, and welcomed with warmth. Fabi (the owner), the hosts, the servers, and the kitchen team are truly some of the kindest souls I’ve ever met! Fabi, the owner, is truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet!
Being Asian myself, I feel emboldened to defend this business in the wake of the hate tied to Kis Cafe – which is incredibly unfair. Suppenkuche supported another restaurant in the neighborhood, without knowing the full context of its closure. The online backlash has been twisted into something malicious, which is so far from the truth that I could not stay silent.
Suppenkuche has never hurt anyone; they’ve fed, hosted, and looked after our community for years. PLEASE do NOT judge them based on rumors or screenshots. Judge them by the love they pour into their food and the people they serve.
This place is the soul of Hayes Valley! Only love no hate!
