Best Seafood Ever! Worth the Wait
Lining up at 8: 30 am, we got seats after half an hour. It's a cash only establishment, but it was totally worth it. My husband said it might be the best seafood restaurant he ever had in America🇺🇸. We're giving it an 11 out of 10 and we are definitely coming back!

Excellent Food, Service, and Atmosphere!
My experience at Swan's was fantastic! It's a small diner with a really active vibe, where the staff are constantly helping each other out. They were incredibly polite and attentive to our needs, even offering tailored menu recommendations. The constant communication among the staff was impressive. The seafood was on point, and all the various items my wife and I tried tasted so good. If I lived in San Francisco, this would be my go-to spot for a date or with my wife. Thanks to the team for making our visit wonderful. We'll definitely be back!

Great Food and Vibes
I visited right when the restaurant opened on a weekday and played it safe with half the smoked salmon and a cup of chowder for breakfast. It was so yummy! The staff were incredibly kind and chill. You’re coming here for great food and even better vibes. I enjoyed chilling at the bar with good music. The place just feels so rich with community and history. Keep in mind, it's cash only! I would definitely go back and recommend it.

A True Seafood Treasure
My experience at Swan Oyster Depot was like stepping back in time to a 1950s fishing village. The atmosphere is unassuming and humble, with a cramped counter and old-school stools, but it’s a treasure. The focus here is purely on fresh, high-quality seafood that needs no embellishment. The oysters were a revelation, tasting purely of the ocean, whether from the West or East Coast. I also tried the Sicilian sashimi, which was a masterclass in simplicity, with the fish's sweetness enhanced by olive oil, lemon, and herbs. The octopus salad was surprisingly tender and nuanced, with a buttery quality. Finally, the Boston clam chowder was a lighter, cleaner, yet indulgent take on the classic, offering comfort in a bowl. The love they put into each dish is undeniable, evident in the unapologetically simple preparation. This is a place that has the classics down to an art form, and I highly recommend skipping the fancy spots for this authentic seafood experience.

Immaculate Vibes, Fresh Seafood, Long Wait
I absolutely loved my experience at this place! The vibes were immaculate, and the seafood was so fresh and good. While it is definitely pricey – I went pre-pandemic and spent $80 but was still a bit hungry – the quality is unmatched. I'm writing this review now to give an update on the line: I went at 11: 20 am on a Friday and the line was 2. 5 hours long. I will definitely come much, much earlier next time, but I also don't really want to be eating oysters at 10 am 😂.

Best Seafood, Worth the Wait!
My experience at this restaurant was exceptional, particularly regarding the food. It's hands down the best seafood place I've ever been to. Be prepared for a wait, as you'll likely spend a minimum of 40 minutes to 1. 5 hours in line. However, I strongly advise against leaving the lane, because the experience is absolutely worth it!

Authentic Seafood Experience at Swan Oyster Depot
Stepping into Swan Oyster Depot felt like a journey back in time to a place that has truly mastered the art of fresh seafood. This is a no-frills, counter-seating-only institution, and its charm lies in its authenticity and, of course, its incredible food. The menu is a dream for any seafood lover. We ordered the combination seafood salad (often called the Sicilian Sashimi), and it was a stunning plate of fresh-off-the-boat tuna, salmon, and white fish, perfectly accented with olive oil, capers, and a squeeze of lemon. The smoked salmon was equally amazing—buttery, delicate, and served with fantastic sourdough bread. The guys behind the counter are true professionals, shucking oysters and preparing plates with incredible speed and skill. The atmosphere is loud, busy, and full of happy customers. It's more than a meal; it's a true San Francisco experience. Essential Tips: • CASH ONLY! The sign in the window isn't joking. • Arrive early (even before they open) to get a spot in line. • Be prepared to stand, but know that the reward is one of the best seafood meals you'll ever have.

Legendary Seafood Bliss
My experience at this restaurant was legendary. I was drawn here by the late Anthony Bourdain, and I completely understand why he loved it. It was total seafood bliss. Be prepared for a queue to get in, and note that it's a cash only establishment. Despite the wait and payment method, it's totally worth it.

Cash Only Vibes Worth the Tourist Trip
This restaurant operates on a cash only basis, which in today's economy, often means you're there for the vibes. They offer free bread, but be aware of the napkin bill and potential for wrong math. Despite these quirks, considering the tables and turnover, it's worth a visit just to say you did. I'd come back when I want to feel like a tourist again. The staff are incredibly chill; if you forget your cash, they're understanding and let you grab it from the nearest ATM. The buttery oysters were from WA. The clam chowder was less creamy than I expected.

Profoundly Disappointing and Disrespectful Experience
My experience at this restaurant was profoundly disappointing. After an arduous wait of nearly two hours to be seated, we encountered a waiter whose demeanor was both arrogant and dismissive. He displayed visible impatience while taking our orders and even mocked us when we showed him photos of dishes that had initially attracted us to the restaurant. He insisted we order only from the menu, with a condescending tone. A particularly unsettling moment was his unsolicited question about whether we needed chopsticks, which felt like a racially charged remark in an American restaurant. Furthermore, he became visibly agitated and shouted at coworkers, creating a hostile and uncomfortable environment. This level of service and basic respect is unacceptable after such a long wait. The entire experience left us feeling disrespected, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed.
