How are the prices at Barrera's Cocina?

You’re looking at roughly 36 $ per person – reported by 38 diners. That puts it in the $31–$40 category. For a Mexican Restaurant, it’s comfortably mid-range: not a steal, but not bank-breaking either.

While the average is 36 $, its interesting to see that many guests actually spend less, often in the $21–$30 range. But dont be surprised if some diners go for more premium options, as there are quite a few higher spends pulling that average up. It seems there’s a good variety on the menu!

Here’s a quick look at what guests spend per person, based on the latest 38 reviews.

Overall, we think the pricing feels pretty fair for a Mexican Restaurant, especially given the variety of options available. You can definitely find something to fit your budget here.

Authentic Mexican Gem in SF
I had the pleasure of dining at Barrera's Cocina yesterday for lunch and was absolutely blown away. This is not your usual Mexican restaurant; it's a culinary journey into the heart of true Mexican cuisine, with a touch of elegance and freshness that sets it apart. Food (5/5): Every dish is a feast for the palate. We started with the freshly prepared Guacamole, which was creamy, perfectly spicy, and served with crispy, non-greasy tortilla chips. I tried the Tacos al Pastor, and the meat was marinated to perfection, succulent, and flavorful, accompanied by caramelized pineapple that balanced it beautifully. Their Mole Enchiladas are a masterpiece; the mole is rich, complex, and deep, clearly prepared with love and high-quality ingredients. Service (5/5): The staff is incredibly warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our waiter was enthusiastic about describing the dishes and gave great drink suggestions. There was no rush, and we felt truly pampered throughout the evening. Atmosphere (5/5): The ambiance is lively yet comfortable, with a modern design that incorporates beautiful traditional Mexican elements. The background music was pleasant, and the noise level was perfect for conversation. They have created a space that is both chic and welcoming. Recommendation: Don't leave without trying their selection of artisanal Margaritas – they are fresh, balanced, and dangerously good! In summary, Barrera's Cocina is the addition San Francisco's gastronomic scene has been missing. If you're looking for authentic, innovative, and passionately prepared Mexican food, this is the place. A 5-star experience in every aspect. I'll be back very soon!

Yummy Tacos and Margaritas!
My experience was so yummy! I ordered grilled shrimp tacos and they were super! Also the chips were delicious and the prickly marg! I would definitely recommend and go back! I typically don’t write reviews but I was shocked at how few people were there on a Thursday night despite how good it was! Definitely give it a try :)

Disappointing Experience, Subpar Food and Service
I really wanted to like this place as I live in the area. Unfortunately, my experience was subpar. The food was not up to par, the service was terrible, but the ambience was sufficient. We enjoy dining at upscale restaurants, but this definitely wasn't one. Despite the pricing, the food wasn't fancy and lacked flavor. The birria was not tender, and the consume was one-dimensional and bland. The carne asada taco tasted like ground beef with taco seasoning. The servers were rude, and we noticed other tables receiving complimentary chips and salsa, which felt odd given the staff's behavior. Overall, I wouldn't return and would not recommend this restaurant. I would prefer to visit Tartine, Cache, or Kothai instead.

Tiny Portions, Bland Flavors, Disappointing Experience
My experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. The portions were incredibly tiny, almost microscopic. The food itself lacked flavor and was generally disappointing. The corn chips, which were thick and crunchy, were served with bland, tiny cups of salsa and felt like a filler. They left a strong, deep-fried oily aftertaste. Specifically, the VEGANAS ($15) and the BAJA TACOS ($16) were served in very, very small portions. The vegetables in the VEGANAS were practically raw and had no taste, consisting of crunchy cauliflower florets, thin slices of onion and carrots, all in a mayonnaise-like sauce. The shrimp was drowned in mayonnaise, which tasted odd and not like a typical Mexican flavor. I left still feeling hungry.

Incredible Food, Lacking Vegetarian Options
My experience at this restaurant was largely positive, with incredible food and great service. The Birria tacos were a standout, and I also enjoyed a stew (though I forgot its name). The staff were exceptionally nice, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. I particularly loved the upper terrace and the ample space to eat. However, the main drawback is the severe lack of options for vegetarians. As far as I recall, the only choice was veggie tacos, which consisted of mushy vegetables. This makes it difficult for vegetarians to dine here.
