Great Family Meal with Friendly Service
My parents wanted to try this spot, and it was our first time here. The staff was very friendly and nice, seeming like a family working together. The food came out pretty fast too! We ordered their 4-person meal for $55, which included 5 dishes, steamed rice, and fruits. The Seafood with bean curd soup was perfect for a cold night, warming us up and offering generous portions with great flavor, especially for seafood lovers. The Barbeque quail was good and crispy, though not very meaty, making it ideal for sharing one per person. The Clams in Black bean sauce were "sooo good! " – a nostalgic dish that perfectly balanced sweetness and saltiness with the black bean sauce. The Honey Walnut Prawn was a popular and generic Asian restaurant dish. The Mustard greens with Seafood had amazing flavors, though we wished they were cut smaller for easier sharing. Overall, the staff was good and the food tasted good. The portions were on the smaller side compared to other restaurants. We would probably come again!

Disappointing Takeout Experience
My husband, who is Chinese, has ordered from here many times before, and the food was always delicious. However, tonight I placed a takeout order. Upon arrival, my order wasn't ready, so I reordered and waited patiently. Unfortunately, when I got home, my husband was upset to find that the General's Chicken was made with tiny scraps of chicken, double-fried in batter to appear larger. The texture was like eating walnuts. I mentioned to my husband that this seems to happen when I, a white woman, order Chinese food; I often get shortchanged on portion size or a low-quality meal. If you decide to order from here, it's best to have the person most fluent in Cantonese place the order to ensure you receive a better meal.

Classic Chinese Comfort Food
My experience at this restaurant was a delightful dive into Chinese comfort food classics, offered at a family-friendly price. It's the perfect standby for those nights when you "don't feel like cooking. " This establishment has been a staple in the Parkside neighborhood and beyond for over 40 years. My favorite dish of the night was the oysters with tofu and onions.

Worst Asian Food Experience
My experience with this restaurant was overwhelmingly negative, particularly concerning their takeout. We ordered the won ton soup and combination chow mein, and both were excessively salty and questionable in freshness. The wontons were disappointingly soft and soggy, while the calamari was rubbery and the noodles in the chow mein were slimy. We were unable to finish the meal and did not keep any leftovers.

Authentic Chinese Food, Nostalgic Experience
I was looking for authentic Chinese food during my visit to my hometown, and this restaurant truly met the mark. The food tasted good, and the portions were large. I particularly appreciated that they brought hot tea to start us off while we reviewed the menu. Overall, it was a good experience. I do feel the pot stickers could have been a bit crispier, as I ordered them pan-fried rather than steamed. However, everything else was pretty good, and I would likely eat here again. It's not a destination to go out of your way for, but it's definitely a place to consider if you're already nearby. Having lived in this neighborhood 28 years ago, it's noteworthy that this is one of the few restaurants from that era still standing.
