Value (2.4 out of 10)

mentioned by 58% of the guests

While a small number of guests (7 out of 126 opinions) did appreciate some positive options, noting a decent happy hour and occasionally reasonable prices for a meal, these positive sentiments are quite rare. The overall value proposition here faces significant challenges. Indeed, the vast majority of feedback (110 opinions) points to serious concerns.

Many felt the establishment was simply expensive, with frequent complaints about price gouging, over priced drinks, and feeling ripped off. The automatic service charge and the perception of it being a tourist trap were major dealbreakers, contributing to a very low score of 2.4 for value and a customer satisfaction of just 5.6.

How are the prices at Sam's Cable Car?

You’re looking at roughly 38 per person – reported by 54 diners. That puts it in the $31–$40 category. For a Bar & Pub, it’s comfortably mid-range: not a steal, but not bank-breaking either.

While the average sits at 38, its interesting to see that many guests actually spend less, with a good number of reviews falling into the 11 – 30 $ range. However, theres also a solid contingent enjoying more premium options, pulling that average up.

Considering it’s a Bar & Pub in San Francisco, we think the pricing is quite fair. It offers options for different budgets, making it accessible while still allowing for a higher-end experience if you choose.

Ridiculous Prices for a Non-High Class Place
I visited this restaurant with my lady for a quick drink, intending to have just one shot each. We asked for well whiskey and for two shots in total, but the bill came to nearly $30. While I understand that high-class establishments might have higher prices, this place is definitely not high-class. The prices are ridiculous, and if you're aiming for a good reputation, this is not the way to achieve it. I most likely won’t come here again unless it’s a last resort. What a shame.

Overcharged and Poor Service
My experience at this restaurant was really bad. I went there for drinks and was charged $63. 04 for 4 beers, plus a 20% tip. This is not right, and in San Francisco, it's illegal to do this. They still wanted me to leave extra tips too, which is not okay. 👎 I asked to speak with a manager, but I was told he was out for two days. When I inquired if someone else was in charge, they said no. People should not go here; they will steal your money.

Tourist Rip-off: High Prices, Poor Value
As a tourist, I strongly advise against visiting this bar. The experience was a complete rip-off. There is only one unisex toilet, which was inconvenient. We were charged approximately $33 or £23. 31 for just two pints. To make matters worse, a 20% service charge was added, and then I was asked for an additional tip. It was an outrageous experience.

Service was a letdown
My experience at this restaurant was disappointing due to the service. I politely asked the worker to change the game on the TV, but he just shook his head and said 'nah'. LMAO, that’s why the 49ers suck.
