Value (3.9 out of 10)

mentioned by 17% of the guests

When it comes to value, some diners appreciate the justified prices for the quality and service, especially noting the generous portion sizes and reasonably priced set menus. Others found the acceptable pricing for wine and the location to be a plus, as highlighted in 9 positive comments. However, the overall sentiment leans negative, with 20 critical remarks out of 29 total.

Many felt the restaurant was overpriced, citing high prices for the quality and shocking billing issues. The presence of various surcharges, like San Francisco fees, group surcharges, and random service fees, along with mandatory tips on the bill, caused significant frustration due to a lack of transparency. This contributes to a poor score of 3.9 and a poor customer satisfaction of just 31%.

Amazing Meals, Large Portions!
Wandered past this place with friends and decided to give it a go. Our meals were all amazing! And very large portions which I appreciate. No room for desert at all. Music was at a good level. My friend had plenty of gluten free options. Voted the best meal of our trip.

Disappointing Food and Loud Atmosphere
I visited Barbara on a Friday evening as it was the only place without a significant wait. We ordered a pizza and a pasta. The Francisco pizza was more akin to a flatbread, unremarkable except for its crust, which was the best part. The pappardelle funghi was overwhelmingly flavored with heavy cream, lacking any discernible truffle oil or mushroom taste. The atmosphere was a nightmare; with numerous birthday celebrations, the restaurant played Farruko’s “Pepas, ” dimmed the lights, and amplified the volume. This is the place if you're looking for an environment full of "wooo girls. " Next time, I'll ensure I have a reservation at North Beach to avoid returning here.

Gritty Italian Hipster Spot with Great Atmosphere
My experience at this restaurant was after a Broadway show on a Friday night. The atmosphere was great, with good energy and a gritty and authentic contemporary Italian hipster aesthetic. It was refreshing compared to the tired and cliché Italian American tourist spots in the neighborhood. However, while the atmosphere was a highlight, there is better pizza to be had in town, and I wasn’t impressed with my cocktail. Despite these food and drink critiques, it's worth it for the atmosphere, and I would go back again if in the neighborhood.

Authentic Italian Taste and Delightful Service
We visited this restaurant during the holidays after a trip to Italy, and to our surprise, the food tasted just the same as if we were actually in Italy. The service was so delightful too. We initially just wanted to use the restroom while exploring the city, but I’m so glad we decided to eat here. We will definitely want to come back.
