Incredible Food, Needs Ambiance Upgrade
Don’t let the simple menu fool you; each item is incredible. The Dynamite Roll and the Dragon Roll were so good. We met the owner who was incredibly kind and passionate about his craft. Our waiter was also so friendly and attentive. My only note is to expand the appetizer section to maybe add a crispy rice or edamame. Also, the owner should liven up the space! The space should match the delicious energy and presentation of the food. The food comes on nice black plates with orchid buds, absolutely gorgeous in contrast against the light wood tables. But invite me into the space with some design! I think this space could benefit from an accent wall with nice wallpaper with jewel tones or something striking to match the ringer of the rolls and staff! Overall, a great spot! Definitely stop by.

Best Sushi in San Diego!
My experience at this restaurant was AMAZING! As a sushi and poke lover, I was thoroughly impressed. The food here is the freshest I've ever tasted in San Diego, and I've tried many places. The nigiri, in particular, is by far the closest to authentic Japanese sushi I've had in the city, even after a recent trip to Japan. The service and atmosphere were also top-notch, both receiving a perfect 5/5 rating. I would rate this place 1000/10!

Incredible Sushi & Authentic Poke!
My experience at Makai Sushi was absolutely incredible! They serve some of the best fish in San Diego, which is flown in directly from Hawaiʻi, the place of origin and culinary inspiration for Chef Matt. As avid sushi and Omakase lovers, we were genuinely stunned by the precision in the preparation of the torched Nigiri, a true specialty of Chef Matt. The poke bowl was absolutely divine, and I still find myself watering at the thought of it. If you're seeking true, authentic Poke, don't miss out on this spot. Chef Matt, the owner, made us feel incredibly welcome and was one of the most passionate sushi chefs I've encountered. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
